All surfaces should be structurally sound, clean and free of dirt, dust, oil, and other contaminants in order to receive Glass Block Mortar. Proper anchoring, wire reinforcing, expansion strips and waterproofing must be provided. Refer to Glass Block’s manufacturer’s specification, Architects and or local building codes. A water-based asphalt emulsion must be used to bond expansion strips to the sides and top of the framing. All strips should cover the entire width and length of framing.
Application
Place a full bed of Glass Block Mortar on base or sill then set first row of blocks. Tap glass blocks into place with a rubber mallet. Repeat the procedure, setting each ascending row of blocks until finished. Rake and tool joints before glass block mortar hardens. Glass Block Mortar’s pot life is approximately 2 hours depending on job conditions. Spacers may be used to ensure even joints.
- Tuck Point Application
- Place the Glass Block Mortar into the joint with a tuck-pointing trowel.
- Use the tuck-pointing trowel to tool the joint and compact for a tight neat appearance.
